16. Grenada 1983 - Saturday, November 26th

A Company 2/505th HeadQuarters in Gouyave

Looking out the back of the jeep as we drive down the street headed for our site in the hills above Gouyave.  The Green truck parked on the left of the street was one of many vehicles commandeered by the US Army. They spray painted the "bumper numbers" on with white paint.  On the left it says, "2-505", and on the right it says, "AC". That's Alpha Company of the 2nd 505th Parachute Infantry regiment.  The building across the street from the truck, on the right, is flying the American Flag. Formerly a bank, the building was used by the unit as headquarters.  The building in the far background looking directly down the road is the Grenada Nutmeg Cooperative Association which was well known as a tourist stop on the island.

In the foreground is a loop of barbed wire, a.k.a, concertina wire with which Tommy and I carefully shared the back seat of the jeep.  The building to the right has a faded yellow street sign attached just below the 2nd story balcony.   Street sign labels the side street as "St. Fancis Street".
